Drink at bars
Shop
Play videogames
Watch sports
And everything else
You can imagine
Except spend too
Much time thinking
About deep questions
Or about a
Raging War in Iraq .
Bush bans coffins
Returning from there
To be shown on TV,
And showing lists of
The dead is considered
“Unpatriotic” by
Scoundrels
Not actually
Fighting the war.
Polls now show
Displeasure with the
War but most want to
Just forget about it
To focus on something
More “relevant” to
Their lives.
Unlike Vietnam ,
Apathetic students
Not fearing the draft
Drink beer bongs
Or pursue other
Frivolous pursuits
And every day
Americans are
Slaughtered
And
Maimed
And Iraq plunges
Further into
A nightmare
That only induces
Yawns
For Most
Who think of it
As somebody
Else’s
Worry.
