Night on the Beach in the Hamptons
I was just on a beach
At night in
East Hampton
In October
And most of the houses
Were
eerily empty
the summer season
gone
Fall breezes blowing
And I pulled up
My car in a
Vacant lot
And I
Went to the beach
With a girl
I love.
The moon
Shined
Resplendent
and the
ocean waves
rolled up on
the shore
sometimes
chasing us.
We giggled.
I called my friend
Away in Mexico
To share my pleasures.
I had always
Read about this
Place and
It was the first time
I ever was there.
I was so excited
By the thrill of
Being the only
Two persons
There.
Hardly
Any signs of
Anyone else
At all.
Dark house
After Dark house.
The playground
Of the rich
Abandoned
To me and
My girl.
It felt like i
Was in
The Great Gatsby
As I saw looked out
Across the bay.
At one point I
Imagined the light
Gatsby looked
For to see his Daisy on the
Other side of the Egg.
I imagined
Walking inside the
Vacant house next
To me
Like a ghost
And what it would
Be like to live there
In the summer peak.
Or any time.
It was
Absolutely
Thrilling
And unexpected.
I wondered if
We’d ever be
Back.
We said we would.
We left.
I hope it comes
True!
