I received a phone
Call while eating dinner
That rattled my head
As the whirl of death
Spins on
Harvesting another
Name
This time it was Mark Dash
An unforgettable character
That I’ve known for 7 years
And is now lost to the
Channels of time.
I saw him only a few days
Before
But as always
You never imagined that
It was the last
And I reflect on him
And his unrealized dreams
Of being a famous
Stand up comedian.
He did gigs in
NYC
And
LA
And
Las Vegas
And then
Finally arrived in
Miami
For the last 20 years
Of his life.
He battled cocaine
Addictions
That drained out his
Life
But never stopped
Him completely from
Making gigantic impressions
On countless people
Without ever being
Famous.
He appeared in a
Miami Vice episode
As a drug snitch
And in Florida Lotto
TV commercials
And that represent
His career achievements.
Minute but notable
In strange ways.
He made me and others
Laugh
All the time
And was incredibly
Fast with wit
And intelligence.
Most will never know
Of him
But that doesn’t change
His reality
Now vanished and left
For others to only
Remember.
I imagine him wandering
Around like a ghost
I wish I could see
One day
But if not I hope
That somewhere
Sometime
We will laugh again
Like we used to.
