| Looking at Photos of a War Ravaged Grozny I always love to imagine Myself going to the Most faraway and exotic Places. Famous and unknown It didn’t matter. I wanted to see it. But life has a way of Stopping your dreams. Not enough $ Is a problem for most. So I often settle for Watching video footage On TV travel shows etc, Or looking at photos In books or the internet. I just came across Photos of war ransacked Grozny. Most don’t even know it Exists. It’s the capital of Chechnya Province In Russia. Since 1993 it has been Wracked by Islamic guerrillas In a civil war for Independence. Gutted Charred Hulks of Buildings Deface the landscape In a creepy, Eerie Reverie of destruction. Ghosts Unseen Seem to float in the Photos anyway Asking unanswered questions Of the dead. Man's inhumanity Frozen For all to see. A haunting echo Hangs in the air. You can feel Scavengers lurking. It just shows that Ruins don’t have To be wind chimes of Lost civilizations. Modernity makes Them too. |
