I'm Pretty Much An Idiot

We drove through the country
my wife and I
looking at old farm houses

I like the dark trees hanging
over the narrow, winding roads
She likes them too

We want to have a bunch of land
and a bunch of animals
and peace and quiet
and stillness

Out of nowhere
I mentioned that we could never afford it
That we had to live close to work
so we could take care of the animals we already have,
That I would most likely die in this town,
That people like us can't have things like that
when I was finished
she didn't say anything
she just looked out the window
at the beautiful land

I continued to drive
in the direction of home
away from the beautiful land
away from her dream
