A Ride

I must get drunk before I ride the train
Because there is too much electricity
In the map of my face
And on the train I see a girl that I am
Attracted to and I stare at her and she
Stares at me, but there is another girl
Staring at me and I am not as attracted to
Her, as I am to the first girl
So I feel guilty and keep staring at
The first girl who has her hair in pretty
Blond cornrows.
And everyone and I continue watching the
First girl, and I don’t say anything to her
Because I don’t want to make anybody
jealous.
Plus I have a heavy buzz which makes it
difficult
To speak
But soon the girl gets off the train
And my eyes follow her into the corners of
this night
And I get off soon afterwards no applause
Or jeers, just falling into the coffee mug
Of the evening
And everywhere there is cars people and
noise
And some of the people are dressed in
expensive
Suits and dresses and laughing and together
As I move like an
Ice cube down a paper cup
Of a street
I move through voices and bodies and
feel a redness
Growing inside me.
I brain walk to blue and whiteness
And those phantom people I am looking for
are not to be seen.
